With two classes under Dr. Leff and Dr. Wozny this year, the GHP chemistry department focused on analytical chemistry and biochemistry. Those who were with Dr. Leff explored the link connecting both biology and chemistry, as students performed daily experiments such as culturing and transforming bacterial DNA. At the same time, students learned about diseases, proteins, and the body's response to various viruses. Students who enjoyed medicine and DNA generally signed up for Dr. Leff's class.
On the other hand, those who were with Dr. Wozny focused on the analytical side of chemistry, as they did experiments with various equipment such as spectrophotometers and Vernier LabPro - a computer that not only gathers data such as pH levels and temperature, but also graphs it live. Those with Dr. Wozny learned how to analyze specific data and draw conclusions using precise technique. Students who like engineering and data collection tended to explore chemistry with Dr. Wozny.
Both classes have the opportunity to undertake a research project ~ whether lab based or literature based. This year, such projects included

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CHEM MAJOR..............
8:00 – Class starts (although Dr. Wozny and Dr. Leff tend to like their students to arrive at 7:55 since being "early is on time")
8:00 – 10:00 – The class either learns new information pertaining to its subject or gives presentations on research/magazine articles
10:00 - 10:30 – Break time (this is a good time to go outside and get some "warm" air since the Bailey-Science building is freezing cold)
10:30 - 12:00 – Labs. This is when students either do labs chosen by the teachers to learn specific information or do their own research projects.
