Biology students, like the other science majors, get a chance to experience their field hands-on. Unlike the other fields, however, biology tends to be a little bit more adventurous. The two subdivisions of biology were field ecology and cognitive science

Cognitive science, headed by Ms. Meltz, focuses on studying the structure, functions, and properties of the brain. The cog majors were given chances to conduct research, at times even using fellow GHP-ers as test subjects.

Field ecology, on the other hand, studied organisms and the environment. The field ecology majors studied Lake Laise for limnology, examined soil content, and learned about water quality in the local stream. Dissections were an essential part of both majors.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A BIO MAJOR..............

8:00 – Arrive to class ON TIME! (There is no such thing as being late for Bio majors!)

8:00 - 8:15 – Outline our goals for the day. (Usually independent research.)

8:15 - 9:00 – Participate in classroom discussion or presentation led by the teacher.

9:00 - 10:00 – Work on our independent research projects.

10:00 - 10:15 - Break!

10:15 - 11:30 - Sign out to go to the library. The library is usually where Bio majors can be found, doing MORE research for their projects.

11: 30 - 12:00 - Present some of our findings to the class.
