GHP String Major day description.

The String Majors start each and every day with a trip to the Fine Arts Building. For the first hour, students are taught music theory and music history and/or music appreciation by the instructors. At the end of class, the "real" day begins. Students get together in their major section class with Mr. Czarkowski and decide how the day will progress from there. Rehearsals vary in type, from small chamber ensembles, large sectionals, to individual practicing. The majors stay in "majors" time until the last hour or hour and a half of the morning, when everyone heads to orchestra practice. Here, the real magic happens, as students from not only the string major, but the brass and woodwind majors as well, meet and put together the large scale productions that occur on a weekly basis. The musical work done during orchestra is intense, and the pieces preformed are not just small time orchestra pieces. At GHP, the students are exposed to real literature, like Death and Transfiguration and The Planets. After orchestra the majors go to lunch and then go to minor class. However, the musical day is not over. Most of the majors return in the evenings for concerts or just to practice.

GHP String Minor day description.

The String Minors are a batch of kids who are not only musically talented, but are smart enough to come to GHP in a subject other than music! These dedicated students meet in the fine arts building for two and a half hours a day and are taught by the same fine instructors that lead the String Majors. They listen to pieces, analyze scores, play their instruments and have fun! They even got a chance to preform in an orchestra concert for the All Campus Chorus and Orchestra Concert, and did a fantastic job.
