Culminating Project...

Our major project is the series of drawings and models of the structure project from the 1/4" scale up to the full-size model we construct on site. The structure investigates all the primary design elements:

• Form-making
• How function and use effects design
• Employing expressive details
• Materiality
• Phenomenology and place-making
• Site constraints
• Circulation- horizontal and vertical
  

By making a two-room structure, the class took up the idea of expressing a dichotomy. We have one active space (the studio) and one passive space (the zen room). In some ways, each are treated the same. The differences express themselves in the window size and placement, the exterior skin, and the occupant's physical connection to the outside world.

Overall, the structure provides a different physical experience in each space, but employs a vocabulary of materials and color that give the whole project a cohesive aesthetic.
