Getting in is not an easy task! Getting in involves being nominated by a teacher in your community that feels you have reached the creative level it takes to be a part of GHP. Once nominated the student is then expected to create a portfolio. The portfolio will have certain expectations that must be completed by school level interviews. The portfolio should consist of paintings, drawings and designs. The student is also required to create a sculpture along with a suggested sketch book. The student will move on to the next round of interviews which would be county level if they make it through the school interview. In the county level interview there are three judges that simply discuss the art with the student while at the same time getting to know the student. Once the student is informed that they have made it through county level they will then move on to state level interviews that are slightly different than the previous interview in that this is the last interview before being accepted in the program. In the state interviews which are held in a lager facility like a gym the students are given a small amount of floor space to set out their art. There are more judges at the state interviews than at the county level. The student is given time to set up their work and meet the other students around them that are setting up. There are usually a pair of judges that carry out the interview. The nominated student will be notified if they are accepted into the program a few weeks after the interview.
