THE NEW VSU
Projects in planning include as follows:
- Nevins Hall Renovation - This project is primarily to upgrade and reconfigure existing space to increase Mathematics and Computer Sciences faculty offices and class rooms. It will increase the capacity of the College of Arts and Sciences to matriculate students On VSU’s Main Campus.
- Health Sciences Center on North Campus - A new building is in planning to be shared by the College of Business Administration, College of Nursing, Social Work Program, Marriage and Family Therapy Program, Communication Disorders Program and programs in Exercise Physiology and Sports Medicine. This new building will provide growth space for programs to acquire more faculty and to serve greater numbers of students. Its location on North Campus makes it more convenient to South Georgia Medical Center for potential of closer working relationship with the Hospital.
Public/private partnership projects are also under development to increase the capacity for student services and housing on the core of the campus to create closer ties to living and learning centers. They include:
- New Hopper Hall - Old Hopper Hall (200 beds) will be demolished in the Summer Term 2007 and a new residential building (500 beds) will be completed on the site by Fall Term 2008.
- Student Union – A new Student Union will be built by the Spring Term of 2010 on the site of the present Student Union and old Gymnasium which will be demolished by the Spring Term of 2008.
- Student Health Center – A new student Health Center will be constructed by the Fall Term of 2008 on a parking lot across Georgia Avenue from Powell Hall.
- Athletic Facility – A new Athletic Practice Facility will be constructed by the Summer Term of 2008.
- New Georgia Hall – Old Georgia Hall (200 beds) will be demolished by the Summer Term of 2008 and New Georgia Hall will be constructed on that site by the Summer Term of 2009.
- Renovation of Reade Hall – Historic Reade Hall will be renovated for an honors dorm by the Summer Term of 2009.
- Two parking decks will be constructed by the Summer Term of 2008
