The Crime Prevention Officer's primary function is the reduction or elimination of criminal opportunities before a crime can occur. Cpl. Maestas teaches VSU 1101 classes to students and conducts shoplifting, armed robbery, and counterfeit money seminars for campus employees. Additionally, he conducts seminars in the residence halls such as Sexual Assault/Rape Prevention, Personal Safety, and Operation I.D. Other duties include conducting surveillance operations and supervision of the B.A.T (Bicycle Anti-Theft) program. Cpl. Maestas also coordinates the self defense class for women called R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense).
