Bike Patrol
Valdosta State University Police Department has three uniformed officers assigned to the bike patrol unit. They are assigned on a voluntary basis. The officers supplement police coverage on campus, usually during peak crime times. Bike patrol has proven to be a very effective crime deterrent tool for the department. Bikes are able to travel many places that cars cannot travel. Officers on bikes can approach suspicious activity and other criminal activity without being heard. The element of surprise is advantageous on crimes in progress calls. The bike patrol also promotes the community oriented policing concept. Bike patrol provides the officer an opportunity to interact with citizens of our community in ways that are usually very well received. The bike patrol has enhanced the quality of police service we are able to provide to the community in which we serve.
