DEAR EMPLOYEE,
As you are aware, the Classified Staff Salary Project has been completed and Valdosta State University is moving towards implementing a new pay plan. Currently, we have a pay plan that consist of pay grades that number from 10 to 38, and each of these numbers is associated with a range of salaries.
MGT of America Inc. has proposed a new pay plan for Valdosta State and this pay plan will consist of pay grades that are numbered from 11 to 47. Each new pay grade will have a pay range with new, more competitive minimum and maximum salary amounts than what we currently have in place. These new pay ranges were determined by the research conducted by MGT of America Inc. based on Georgia Department of Labor and College and University Personnel Association salary information. The new pay grade numbers have no relationship to the old pay grade numbers. Note, if your pay grade number has decreased, this does not mean you have been demoted.
Currently:
Your current pay grade is _________and the current pay range is __________.
Results from the MGT of America Inc. study show that:
Your new proposed pay grade is ___________and the new proposed pay range is __________.
This fiscal year we will be able to adjust those employees in new pay grades 11 through 16. With each successive fiscal year we hope to be able to put aside an equivalent sum of money to continue to bring employees who are below the new minimums of the pay ranges up to the new minimum amount.
MGT of America Inc. has also made recommendations regarding title changes. Some employees may have title changes and salary increases while others may only have title changes. These changes will be phased in as each new pay grade is touched over the course of the multi-year project.
The outcome of this project is dependent on our budgetary limitations and while we wish we could adjust all employees at one time, this is not possible. All approvals for compensation decisions are dependent on the availability of funds and increases may be denied or held if it is deemed in the best interest of the University. Please note that this letter does not constitute a contractual obligation on the part of the institution in that your actual earnings are determined by the hours you work, your sick leave, and your vacation leave to cover absences, etc.
We are taking very positive steps toward improving the salary levels of our staff. As we move closer to our goals, additional information will be forthcoming. Information regarding this project can be found on the Human Resources and Employee Development website at www.valdosta.edu/finadmin/human_resources/
