Priority Job Postings (are designated by the column labeled "Priority")

Purpose: Valdosta State University is committed to providing opportunities for incumbent staff members. One way the Department of Human Resources and Employee Development provides assistance with career advancement is by incorporating procedures to allow current VSU employees an opportunity to be referred to job vacancies before the position is opened for recruiting to the general public. The following policy and procedure statements address the manner in which this process can be accomplished.

Policy: All open positions must be posted for a minimum of five days, however the employing unit may initially designate that a position be posted with an employee priority designation to be posted on the employment website.

Positions designated for employee priority posting will be posted for a minimum of five business days on the employment website and only applications from current qualified VSU employees will be referred to that position.

If the employing unit identifies a successful candidate from this pool, no additional recruiting is required. If after five business days no VSU applicant has been selected, the position will be reopened and again posted for recruiting on the employment website for a minimum of five additional business days. VSU employees may still apply during this open period.

Those employees classified as casual laborer/temporary workers; do not qualify for priority positions. As in the past, they may apply for any other position.

Notice to Applicants for Priority Posting Employment:

    • Those having been convicted of a criminal drug offense shall be disqualified for a period for not less than two years from date of conviction.
    • Multiple criminal drug offenses shall disqualify a candidate for not less than five years from date of most recent conviction.
    • Those convicted of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude are disqualified unless a pardon has been granted.

All offers of employment are thereby conditioned upon the results of a Background Investigation Report which includes a criminal background check and a credit check where applicable, as well as other checks as needed.
