Benchmarking of classes (see paragraph below) was done using the position descriptions you supplied to create matches with the VSU job descriptions and the GDOL job definitions.
Information provided by you via the JCQ (job content questionnaire) and data collected during the market review was combined and evaluated by MGT of America Inc. (MGT) to determine a pay grade for each class title and establish the relative ranking of positions within the classification system.
Benchmarking Classes
Market data were generated for selected job classes within the scope of the study. In any market comparison, there are no mirror images that an organization can hold itself up to and conclude that there is an exact match. Through a compilation and review of a national market that included 103 peer institutions selected by VSU, and a local market that included contiguous counties, one can establish a general guide to assess market conditions. In the development of the pay plan for VSU, a considerable amount of data was generated.
In terms of pay plan development and the creation of a new pay structure, benchmark data were not available for all positions included in the study. MGT generally targets a minimum of 30 percent of class title benchmark matches to develop a valid competitive market pay plan. MGT was able to identify a match for approximately 85 percent of all of VSU’s class titles. This is an exceptionally high match rate. Salary data from these matched class titles served as a guide in classifying the remaining 15 percent of the class titles that did not have exact benchmark matches.
