Dr. Christy Beth Coons Yates BS, Alternative Dispute Resolution & Human Resources, James Madison University Dr. Yates is the Director of Operations and Special Projects for the Division of Finance and Administration. She works in the offices of Financial Services and teaches as a faculty member in the Department of Communication Arts. Christy came to VSU in 1998 to teach the Organizational Communication courses in the Department of Communication Arts. Her teaching has included courses in Interviewing, Organizational Communication Theory, Organizational Analysis & Audits, Training and Development, Conflict Resolution, Leadership, Public Speaking, and Creative Thinking Techniques. After earning tenure, and participating in an administrative internship, she was asked to lead planning and organizational development efforts at the university and served as a Director in this capacity. Working with the University President, she established planning procedures, managed the award winning planning database, and implemented campus wide participation in the development of integrated goals and metrics. Her current position provides management and operational analysis to the VP of Finance and Administration, serving as a liaison to the divisional directors and campus at large. She provides a special focus on demonstrating and documenting effectiveness. She continues her relationship with the Communication Arts Department as a faculty member, teaching both entry level and advanced courses as needed. In addition to private consulting, Christy has worked in the training and development field for the Architect of the Capital’s office, the service branch for the US Congress; and for NASA Headquarters as a publication design specialist. Professional affiliations have included the American Association for Higher Education, American Society for Training and Development, Society for Human Resources Management, National Association of College and University Business Officers, Society of College and University Planners, National Communication Association, Phi Kappa Phi, Golden Key, Omicron Delta Kappa and numerous other honorary societies.
