Week of July 5 - A Day in the Life of Amanda Williams

Amanda Williams is a campus mail carrier for Valdosta State University and has worked for the school a total of eight years. As a mother of three children, Williams said that she spends most of her free time with her kids.
Williams comes to work at 8 a.m.--the same time the mail trucks arrive. She spends the first hour unloading mail and organizing it according to routes. Williams is responsible for sorting flat mail, or books and magazines, and once these items organized, she begins her deliveries at 9 a.m. After delivering letters and books and picking up outgoing mail from office buildings, Williams returns to campus mail service at 11 a.m. She then makes a second trip around campus after lunch.
Williams said that she enjoys her job because she likes the people she works with. "I like being a part of the campus mail service," Williams said. "It's a nice working environment and I like talking with the people who work in the offices I deliver to." Williams understands the importance of delivering mail on campus. "I try to help out the office by doing the best job I can everyday," Williams said.
