Division of Finance and Administration
Week of April 14 - VSU Campus Patrol

Ribbon ceremony in front of West Hall
The student patroller unit is the result of an Initiative (#9378) proposed by University Police through our Strategic Planning process. University Police requested approval and funding for this initiative so they would be able to utilize students to perform duties that can be handled by non-certified employees; such as locking and unlocking doors; providing escorts; patrolling parking lots; and being present at late night locations such as computer labs and the Internet Café, Food for Thought. These trained student employees extending the visual presence of University Police on campus and serve as additional eyes and ears for our certified police officers. The implementation of this program allows University Police to use scarce monetary and personnel resources to their fullest by providing more flexibility in the usage of their current full-time officers. This initiative is an excellent example of how a creative idea from one department can turn into a planning Initiative, receive funding support, and positively impact the entire campus. Not only does this initiative efficiently utilize resources, but it extends the functionally of a department, and provides newly enhanced services to the entire campus community.
So next time you are out on campus, see if you can spot one of our new security patrollers in their bright red shirts or riding in the new red security vehicles. Please welcome them to their new positions on campus.
