It's an A1 day as Valdosta State University celebrates the start of a new student housing complex called Centennial Hall (East and West). The official ground breaking ceremony was held on June 29 under a large tent located in an open field beside the housing site. Hundreds of university, community people as well as representatives from the Board of Regents, state and local government were on hand to witness the event. Dr. Zaccari moderated the ceremony by asking various officials to speak on their experiences working with the project team. Vice Chancellor Linda Daniels: "this project is a result of strong partnerships on every level. We are about creating a better educated Georgia. Education is about the sum total of all experiences. This facility will help foster the living and learning environment at VSU." Local Bank of America President Michael Harpe: "we were able to obtain a bond rating of A1 for this housing project. There is only one other institution in the university system that has an A1 rating. This high rating was given because of the 'accomplished and competent management team at Valdosta State'. Hold on tight folks, because this is one of many capital projects on the way." Ambling Company Vice President Greg Blais: "we promise you will have a showcase facility in Spring 2005. Ride the wave of Valdosta State - it's going places". The Centennial East Hall comprised of 384 beds will open in January 2005. See additional photos.
