Author of scholarly articles on teaching irony in the writing class and on the history of Cajun/English dialect in South Louisiana and a review article on a bibliography of Southern American English.

Scholarly papers on Mark Twain, Jonathan Edwards, and Nathaniel Hawthorne as well as the teaching of developmental writing, writing groups, literature in the writing classroom, and the morality/literacy contrast in Emerson.

Areas of interest: rhetoric and composition theory; nineteenth-century American literature.
