English department ANNUAL ESSAY CONTEST

$50 PRIZE FOR BEST ESSAYS IN THREE CATEGORIES

SUBMISSIONS ACCEPTED IN THE FOLLOWING CATEGORIES:

Personal Essay: Essays that reflect the student’s experience and observation; narratives, analyses, arguments that do not depend upon outside sources.

Documented Essay: Essays that depend upon an outside source or sources; research papers or others that engage text(s) for the purpose of response, analysis, argument, etc.

Literary Analysis: Essays that analyze, evaluate, or otherwise engage a literary work or a film.

CONTEST INFORMATION:

Contest is open to students in ENGL 1101, 1102, and 2000-level courses only from spring 2007 to spring 2008.

Deadline for submissions is March 28, 2008. Winners will be announced before the term’s end.

Essays will be judged by members of the English Department's Core Curriculum Committee.

Multiple submissions will be accepted. Students may submit their own work independently, or instructors may submit work with the student's permission.

Each essay should be accompanied by a cover letter that includes the following information:
