LING: LINGUISTICS
LING 4000 Elements of Linguistics 3-0-3
Prerequisite or co-requisite: ENGL 2110 or 210H, 2120 or 2120H, 2130 or 2130H, or
2140. A study of applied linguistics which examines the nature, structure, and diversity of
language, including the phonological, syntactic, and semantic patterns of English in contrast
to features of other selected languages.
LING 4160 Sociolinguistics 3-0-3
Prerequisite or Co-requisite: LING 4000. A study of the nature of language and the
relationships between language and culture. Emphasis on cultural and social factors affecting
language.
