Basic Computer Requirements & Skills

It is strongly recommended that you have your own computer. Depending on computers locating in various public locations can cause difficulty since they may not have the proper hardware, software and plug-ins needed to access courses. You cannot use WebTV with eCore®.

The following recommendations have been made in terms of skills needed prior to taking an online course:

Internet Skills

  • Use a Web browser (e.g., Netscape or Internet Explorer)
  • Be able to use a search engine such as Google.
  • Manage Bookmarks or Favorites

Email Skills

  • Send a message to someone not in your address book
  • Add someone to your address book
  • Open an email message
  • Reply to an email message
  • Attach a document and send to someone in an email message
  • Open an attached document that someone has sent to you in an email message
  • Know better than to forward a message that promises something really cool will appear on your screen if you send it to your 10 closest friends.

General Skills

  • Manage files (locate, copy, attach)
  • Download & install software from a website to your computer
  • Create a document using Word
  • Use "help" system to solve a problem or assist you in performing a task
  • Install Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer
