Advising for online students

Undergraduate Advising

Advising is mandatory for undergraduate and graduate students. Students who have not been advised are not eligible to register in any phase of registration. Students should contact their advisor well before registration to complete the advising process. To be eligible for early registration, returning students must complete advising prior to the first day of early registration.

All undergraduate students who have not chosen a major are classified as Liberal Arts Students (LAS) and are advised through the OASIS Advising Center in the University Center. See the OASIS Advising Center website for details and contact information.

All undergraduate students with a declared major must be advised by a faculty member from that major department. The advising folder will be maintained by that college or department. Registration materials, including class schedule/fee assessment forms, will be sent to the major departments by Admissions. Students can find their advisor’s name on the student information link on BANNER. The Banner Student Guide provides instructions for using the BANNER system.  Students may look up faculty email and phone listings in the Campus Directory.

Graduate Advising

New Graduate students should carefully read the Online Orientation provided by the VSU Graduate School. Graduate students should contact their advisor well in advance of registration. Students who are unsure of their advisor should contact the departmental graduate coordinator. After approving the course selection the advisor will clear the student for registration on the web registration system.
