Home > COSA Welcome from Chair

It is an honor to welcome you to the web pages of the Council on Staff Affairs (COSA). COSA continues to flourish and excel in the shared governance model at Valdosta State University.  By being an integral part of our governing process, we have, as a group, have helped to move our University community to stirring levels of growth and progress.

COSA is an organization representing all classified employees of Valdosta State University.  COSA addresses staff concerns, job development, and the welfare issue of classified employees.  The Council recommends to the President of the University, suggestions for the improvement of policies and procedures related to the general welfare of all concerned within the University community.  Members serve on many campus wide committees such as, the University Council, Initiative Planning and Employee Selection/Screening.

COSA was empowered in 1992 to create a forum for two-way communication of ideas and concerns.  It has developed a systematic means for communicating specific actions and feedback on issues.  Meetings are held once a month and any employee may attend.  If an employee wishes to bring up an issue or concern, he/she may do so by contacting their COSA representative who will make arrangements to have the issue placed on the next meeting agenda.

COSA has achieved several programs, which have improved employee development and enhancement.

Here are a few examples:

  • Sponsored first annual Staff Day
  • Designed and implemented the VSU Retirement Walkway
  • Participated in the development and implementation of Tuition Remission Policy
  • Developed and implemented an Employee Recognition Program
  • Helped implement a New Employee Orientation Program

With your help and perseverance toward the advancement of this common goal, the essence of this institution can only soar to greater heights.   It is with great pride and admiration that I walk with you to take on the new challenges of our upcoming year together.

Sincerely,

Richard Hammond
