Elizabeth Boyd announced that Travel Unlimited would like to offer a special tour to any VSU employee.

The tour would be to Callaway Gardens Fantasy Lights. They would need a minimum of 40 people for a cost of $49.95 each. The bus would leave Valdosta early in the morning, show a movie up and back, and arrive late around 1:00am back in Valdosta. The trip is about 4 hours long. The price includes admission to the garden tour, Christmas dinner in the village café, bus driver's tip, and is fully escorted at all time. There are a lot of gift shops to see. The date would be December 18, 1999. Anyone interested contact Debi Parkhill at # 2608 or email her at dparkhil. The winner of the tour trip given away at the Staff Appreciation Day was Delois Hargett. Have a great time, Delois.

Treasurer's Report - No report so the balance is still $2,315.94.

Committee Reports

Elections- Holly Decker reported that she is still gathering information of staff employees on campus for the coming election in April 2000.

Employee Recognition- Holly Decker reported that the nomination form is ready for the committee to check over to see if its what we agreed on. Will send them out October 21, 1999.

Policies /By-Laws Committee- Ann Lacey reported that Ruth Salter is chair of this committee.

Welfare- Hilda Spell reported that the dunking booth made for the Walkway $246.00. This hasn't been deposited as of this meeting. The Walkway balance is $354.33 from brick sales.

Recycling- Tom Parnell no report.

Salary Study- Debi Parkhill reported that she is currently waiting on an update from UGA concerning their progress with the salary study. In lieu of the budget cuts, the salary study has been redirected until further information can be complied.

Reports from the Chair: Debi Parkhill reported that on September 16, 1999 attended the Faculty Senate meeting. Brochures were distributed to all attending members, followed by a memo and additional brochures for them to give to other faculty members.

Thanks to the Staff Appreciation Day COSA have received an enormous amount of interest in what we do. Hopefully we can continue to hold this positive image and become more involved with the staff we were elected to represent. I request that all the representatives make sure that what we say or do travels back to all the staff at VSU.

All the left over food from the Staff Appreciation Day was given to the Hahira Soup Kitchen. We couldn't see all that food wasted.

Old Business

The University System of Georgia Staff Conference will be held on Friday, October 15, 1999 at Milledgeville, Ga. COSA will be sending six members to the Conference.

New Business

Inman Grimsley reported that him, Debi Parkhill, Sandra Fletcher and Ray Devery had a meeting about a fund raiser for the Retiree Walkway. We are trying to focus on the future improvements of the Walkway and others that may not be able to buy their brick. We want to get retirees and other VSU employees to contribute funds to the walkway and not just buy a brick. We plan to form a committee of 4 staff members, 4 faculty members, 4 retirees, Chair of COSA, Chair of the Welfare Committee, Sandra Fletcher and the Personnel Director.

There being no further discussion or business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:45 am and will meet again on November 9, 1999.     Submitted by; Holly M. Decker COSA Secretary
