
THE COUNCIL OF STAFF AFFAIRS
Minutes of October 10, 2006
1) Call to Order:
Chair Tim Yorkey called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. in the University Center Rose Room. Members present: Brian Anderson, Nolan Argyle, David Bennett, Denise Bogart, Sharon Butcher, Honey Coppage, Diane Guess, Mike Hamm, Verna Harvey, Christine James, Brenda Kelley, Bob Lee, Mike McKinley, Angela Steele, John Wright, Tim Yorkey. Quorum attained. Absent: Debra Davis, Steve Fesler, Keith Flemming, Bobby Flowers, Richard Hammond, Beverly Sharpe, Shana Yorkey.
2) Approval of the Minutes from September 12, 2006:
Minutes were approved.
3) Approval of Treasurer Report:
No financial report.
4. Special Order of the Day:
Vote on VSU email policy. There were some concerns voiced. Bob Lee made a motion to suspend COSA policy rule which states a motion should be voted on at the next meeting after it is presented. Motion seconded. After discussion and clarification email policy was voted on and passed.
4) Standing Committee Reports:
Membership Committee-Tim Yorkey
Employee of the Semester-David Bennett
Forms are being revised and will be ready to present at November’s meeting.
Elections-Mike McKinley
On line election process is on hold.
Staff Appreciation Day Committee-Honey Coppage
Staff Appreciation Day is this Friday, October 13, 2006. Everything is ready to go.
1. COSA On-The-Move-Honey Coppage
Staff Game Day, October 21, 2006. Tickets are $2.00. COSA will tailgate before the game beginning at 11:00 with hotdogs, chips, and drinks.
Welfare Committee-Honey Coppage
1. Retirement Walkway- Chair: Honey Coppage

3. Benevolence- Shana Yorkey
No activity this month.
Policy Committee-Bob Lee
Committee met on Sept. 14th. Meeting was very productive with good attendance. Tim had submitted the constitution to Marsha Krotseng for review.
Environmental Issues-Bobby Flowers
1. Recycling-Bobby Flowers
VSU is considering an outside company to begin coming on campus to take care of our recycling needs.
2. Wellness- Brenda Kelley/ Bob Lee
Lunch n’ Learns are underway. One planned for every month with different topics of interest and nutritious meal each time. Campus Wellness co-hosted the Benefits Fair this month as well as was a part of a student Wellness Fair on campus.
3. Second Hand Smoke-Sharon Butcher

5) Miscellaneous Reports:
Faculty Staff Campaign-Bobby Flowers / State Charitable Contribution Campaign-Bob Lee
Bob Lee suggested that an email go out from COSA encouraging all employees to participate in both campaigns.
Parking and Appeals-Mike McKinley
For Month of September Mike reported 298 appeals; 141 Upheld; 157 Dismissed.
Goal Monitor
Verna Harvey was announced as our new Goal Monitor. She encouraged us to give her any feedback from Staff Appreciation Day so that it can be noted for our goals and goal setting for next year.
6) Report from the Chair:
Academic Scheduling/Procedures
Met on Oct. 5th. Sub committee was formed to review the 08-09 calendar year.
Faculty Senate-Tim Yorkey
Faculty Senate met. Voted on and passed the University email policy.
University Council-Honey Coppage
It was noted that we need a 2nd person to be on hand to attend the University Council meetings. Interested parties should let Tim know. Next month nominations will be voted on.
State Staff Council-Bobby Flowers
Tim reminded us that the date for the State Staff Council meeting has been moved to Nov.2nd and 3rd. COSA will be sending Sharon Butcher, Bobby Flowers, Brenda Kelley, and Bob Lee.

October 20th is the first of several breakfasts with the President. This is a time for COSA members to sit down and visit with the President and discuss in an open forum
9) Other Business:
Joe Newton was present for the last part of the meeting and he addressed questions from David Bennett and Mike Hamm regarding the availability of computers for placement where the Landscaping and Grounds employees could have easy access to information via email.
