MINUTES OF THE COUNCIL ON STAFF AFFAIRS MEETING

May 11, 2004

 

COSA Chair-elect Patrick Smith called the meeting to order at 8:38 a.m. in the President’s Dining Room of the Palms Dining Center.  Members present:  David Bennett, Melinda Cutchens, Bobby Flowers, Shawn Gibbons, Jeff Giles, Jeff Grant, Inman Grimsley, Mike Hamm, Rosalyn Hatcher, Stanley Jones, Bob Lee, Shannon McGee, Mike McKinley, Patrick Smith, Josie Stone, Trisha Taylor, Carolyn Wilson and Tim Yorkey.  Members absent:  Sharon Butcher, Carolynn Gaston, Rebecca Kimbrough, Marshall McLane and Thor Withers.  Special guest:  Sue Lampert. 

 

Special Order of the Day:

            Sue Lampert gave a power point presentation on the staff survey results.  Attached is a copy of the recommendations that came from the survey.  A copy of the information from the power point presentation can be found on the COSA web site at: http://www.valdosta.edu/vsu/cosa/.

           

MINUTES:  

 

            There was a typo correction made to the April 13th minutes.  The minutes for the April 13th meeting were approved with the correction.  Also the COSA secretary was contacted by Jim Black’s office to correct the original quote in the April 13th minutes ‘honoring the individual and community’ to ‘honoring the individual in community’ and noting that is Jim Black’s own personal motto and not one endorsed by the University. The secretary apologizes for the error and has made the appropriate changes to the minutes.

 

TREASURER’S REPORT: 

 

Ø       April:  Fund 10000         = $1,031.68

Ø                        Discretionary = $1,904.16           

Ø        Retirement Walkway   = $12,194.19

 

  The Treasurer’s report for April was approved as submitted.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

REPORT FROM THE CHAIR:  Patrick stated that Rebecca wanted to thank everyone for their hard work.

           

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: No Report.

    

NEW BUSINESS:

v      EEO Codes.

OTHER BUSINESS:

v      There was a suggestion that a recommendation be sent to Dr. Zaccari in ref. to the smoking policy that is being implemented in town around buildings.

v      Jeans for Justice

v      SGA & Faculty Senate support and involvement.

v      Ways to communicate to the campus (smart boards).
