The Theatre program at Valdosta State University offers scholarships to incoming students, whether they are of freshman or transfer standing.  The amounts of the Golden Circle and Eberhardt Scholarships range from $900 to $1,500 for an academic year (the Jennett Scholarship and the Robinson Musical Theatre Scholarship are for $2,500 and $5,000 respectively) depending on the audition, the interview, the financial need, and the scholastic credentials of the applicant.  (Scholarships are not automatically renewed, but after their first year, students may apply/audition for returning student scholarships.)  Students desiring scholarship consideration need to fill out and return the forms below and schedule an audition time.

Audition & Interview Preparation

BFA in Theatre Scholarship Audition and Musical Theatre Emphasis Admission and/or Scholarship Audition

  • For an acting audition, the applicant should prepare two monologues of a contrasting nature (one serious, one comic; one period, one contemporary, etc.) no longer than two minutes in length a piece.  The applicant has a total of four minutes.
  • For a technical interview, the applicant should prepare a portfolio to exhibit.  Each applicant will be given five minutes to discuss the contents of the portfolio.
  • AN AUDITION IS REQUIRED FOR ADMISSION TO THE MUSICAL THEATRE EMPHASIS.  For a musical theatre audition, auditionees should prepare one monologue and thirty two bars from two separate musical pieces of contrasting nature (one up tempo/one ballad; one classical/one from musical theatre repertoire, etc.).  The presentation of the monologue and the two musical selections should not exceed three minutes.  An accompanist will be provided.  Singing a capella or to taped accompaniment is not allowed.  Sheet music must be provided for the accompanist. Auditionees will also be expected to participate in a dance audition.  Participants should bring appropriate dancewear and footwear.  Time will be allotted for changing clothes.  The required application is enclosed for those auditioning for this emphasis who are not seeking scholarship consideration.  If an applicant wishes to audition for admission to the musical theatre emphasis and scholarship consideration both the admission and scholarship forms must be returned.
  • Each applicant will be interviewed in addition to the audition or presentation and should be prepared to discuss career goals.  The interview will also provide an opportunity for the applicant to ask any questions he or she may have concerning the theatre program.

BFA in Dance Admission and/or Scholarship Audition

  • AN AUDITION IS REQUIRED FOR ADMISSION TO DANCE DEGREE PROGRAM. The audition will consist of a 2 hour dance class. During the class combinations in varying styles will be taught and the auditionees will perform the combinations in small groups. Participants should bring appropriate dancewear and footwear.  Time will be allotted for changing clothes.
  • Each applicant will be interviewed in addition to the audition or presentation and should be prepared to discuss career goals.  The interview will also provide an opportunity for the applicant to ask any questions he or she may have concerning the theatre program.

            Auditions for Fall 2010 admission will be conducted during Spring Semester, 2010 on the VSU campus.  If these dates are not suitable, other arrangements may be arranged but are not guaranteed..  Scholarships will be awarded by April 21, 2010..  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact scholarship coordinator, Jacque Wheeler.
