Position Announcement

Valdosta State University is offering graduate assistantship positions in athletic training beginning August 1 though we ask you to report the last week of July.   Valdosta State University is a member of the Gulf South Conference in NCAA Division II scholarship athletics. Valdosta State University also has a CAATE accredited undergraduate athletic training program. The contract term is August 1 to May 31.  The position includes a stipend and tuition remission.

Responsibilities

Graduate assistants are assigned to a variety of VSU Athletic Teams, including football and work along with certified staff athletic trainers.  During the two year assistantship duties  include: specific team coverage and travel responsibilities, coordinate the weekly Orthopaedic clinic with the team physician, travel duties, assist the head athletic trainer with inventory, and the possibility of teaching opportunities.  Second year graduate assistants may also supervise students in the CAATE accredited athletic training education program.  This graduate assistantship offers the opportunity to obtain an advanced degree, team coverage in intercollegiate athletics, athletic training room operation experience, exposure to administrative duties, supervision of athletic training students, and close interaction with the team physician.

Qualifications

Successful candidates must be accepted into the Valdosta State University Graduate School and be eligible for BOC certification upon application and must be certified by start date. GRE scores of 350 on verbal and 750 total (with either quantitative or analytical) or greater and GPA's above 3.0 are strongly advised.  Applicants must be eligible for Georgia licensure.

Admission to the VSU Graduate School must be confirmed prior to an applicant being offered the position

Degrees Offered

Within the Kinesiology and Physical Education Department there are two tracks available for graduate assistant athletic trainers. Degrees are offered in the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education in one of two tracks: teacher T5 Physical Education certification or teacher T4 and T5 Physical Education certification (entry level). Also athletic training graduate assistants are encouraged to consider the Masters program in Higher Education, or the Masters in Technology Applications.
