Research Questions & Objectives
The Impact of Mindfulness Training on Level of Consciousness and Problem Solving in College Students
The purpose of our mindfulness and problem solving study is to collect data from a selected sample of students over the age of 18 in order to determine the impact of mindfulness training on level of consciousness and problem solving ability. The problem solving tasks are popular examples that have been used in a wide variety of previous studies on problem solving. The problems fall within three categories: 1) Problems of inducing structure (analogy, series completion, 9 dot problem, and matchstick problem), 2) Problems of arrangement (string problem and anagrams), and 3) Problems of transformation (hobbits and orcs and the water jug problems).

Identifying Physiological, Cognitive, and Emotional Factors Underlying Level of Consciousness
The purpose of our physiological, cognitive, and emotional studies are to determine whether an individual’s level of consciousness is influenced when the individual engages in activities that are physiologically, cognitively, or emotionally taxing. We are currently collecting data from students over the age of 18 in order to validate our pilot studies’ methodologies and ensure accurate results when conducting our full scale studies.

We work with colleagues in Cyprus, Turkey, the Czech Republic, and Russia to conduct research on understanding multicultural interpretations of level of consciousness and enhance our knowledge of human consciousness. Additionally, we are currently working with colleagues in Russia to validate use of the Troyer Level of Consciousness Inventory in Russian.
