Assessments for Gifted Students*
Center Faculty can administer the following assessments:
- Acceleration
- Iowa Acceleration Scale, 3rd Edition (IAS-3) was designed for use with students in grades K-8. It is an appropriate guide for decisions about early entrance to kindergarten or first grade.
- Intelligence (Verbal& Non-Verbal)
- Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test, Second Edition (KBIT-2) Professionals depend on the Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test (KBIT-2) to measure both verbal and nonverbal ability. (Ages 4 - 90 years).
- Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test®-Individual Administration (NNAT®-Individual) to assess general reasoning ability in children and adolescents. (Ages 5 - 17 years).
- Draw-A-Person Intellectual Ability Test (DAP:IQ) The Draw-A-Person Intellectual Ability Test for Children, Adolescents, and Adults (DAP:IQ) provides a common set of scoring criteria to estimate intellectual ability from a human figure drawing. (Ages 4.0 - 89.11 years).
- Achievement
- Test of Mathematical Abilities for Gifted Students (TOMAGS) The TOMAGS measures students’ ability to use mathematical reasoning and mathematical problem-solving.
- Primary Level (Grades K-3)
- Intermediate Level (Grades 4-6)
- Wide Range Achievement Test 3 (WRAT 3) The WRAT3 provides valid and reliable information on individual achievement. (Ages 5 - 75 years).
- Screening Assessment for Gifted Elementary and Middle School Students, 2nd Ed. (SAGES-2) The SAGES-2 assesses aptitude and achievement in order to identify gifted students. (Ages 5 - 14 years).
- Test of Mathematical Abilities for Gifted Students (TOMAGS) The TOMAGS measures students’ ability to use mathematical reasoning and mathematical problem-solving.
- Gifted Scales
- Gifted Rating Scales (GRS) The Gifted Rating Scales are norm-referenced rating scales based on current theories of giftedness and guidelines regarding the definition of gifted and talented students.
- Preschool/Kindergarten Form (Ages 4.0 - 6.11 years)
- School Form (Ages 6.0 - 13.11 years)
- Gifted and Talented Evaluations Scales (GATES) The GATES is an innovative, quick approach for identifying students ages 5 to 18 who are gifted and talented.
- Tracking Talents: Identifying Multiple Talents Through Peer, Teacher, and Self-Nomination Forms (Tracking Talents PTSNFs) Tracking Talents offers an innovative, statistically sound component to a comprehensive gifted and talented screening and identification process.
- Scales for Rating the Behavioral Characteristics of Superior Students (SRBCSS) Based on a multiple talent approach to the identification of gifted students, fourteen scales help identify student strengths.
- Scales for Identifying Gifted Students (SIGS) The SIGS is a norm-referenced rating scales designed to assist school districts in the identification of students as gifted.
- Gifted Rating Scales (GRS) The Gifted Rating Scales are norm-referenced rating scales based on current theories of giftedness and guidelines regarding the definition of gifted and talented students.
- Creativity
- Profile of Creative Abilities (PCA) The PCA is a measure of creative ability. (Ages 5.0 - 14.11 years)
- Thinking Creatively in Action and Movement (TCAM) The TCAM assesses the creativity of young children or others with limited verbal and drawing skills. (Ages 3 - 6 years)
- Thinking Creatively with Sounds and Words (TCSW) The TCSW is a battery of two tests: Sounds and Images (SI) and Onomatopoeia and Images (OI).
- Level I (grades 3-12)
- Level II (adults)
- Style of Learning and Thinking (SOLAT) offers an introduction to the concept of brain hemispheres that will intrigue your students and enlighten you. Possessing an awareness of their own learning styles helps students understand how they learn and how they can approach a variety of challenges.
- Grades K-5 (Elementary Form)
- Grades 6-12 (Youth Form)
- Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (TTCT) These instruments have been used for identification of the creatively gifted and as a part of gifted matrices in states and districts in the USA, especially in multicultural settings, and for special populations around the world.
- The Figural TTCT: Thinking Creatively with Pictures is appropriate at all levels, kindergarten through adult.
- The Verbal TTCT: Thinking Creatively with Words is appropriate at all levels, first-grade through adult.
- Khatena-Torrance Creative Perception Inventory (KTCPI) The KTCPI includes two self-report checklists: Something About Myself (SAM) and What Kind of Person Are You? (WKOPAY). These two checklists serve to identify candidates for creativity programs.
- Ages (12 years to adult)
- Abbreviated Torrance Test for Adults (ATTA) is a shortened version of the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (TTCT). The ATTA provides substantial insight into the creativity of adults by quantifying figural and verbal creative strengths.
- Leadership
- Leadership Skills Inventory (LSI - Karnes) can be used with students who aspire to improve their potential for leadership roles (Upper Elementary, Secondary, and Post-secondary Levels)
- Critical Thinking
- Cornell Critical Thinking Tests (CCTT) develops a clear picture of critical thinking abilities. What is critical thinking?
- Level X (Grades 5-10+)
- Level Z (Grades 10-12+)
- Cornell Critical Thinking Tests (CCTT) develops a clear picture of critical thinking abilities. What is critical thinking?
