DR. KIGONGO-BUKENYA

Dr. Isaac M.N. Kigongo-Bukenya is the Director of the East African School of Library and Information Science at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda.  This semester, he is a visiting International Scholar in the MLIS Program at Valdosta State University. He holds two diplomas in public administration and librarianship, two master’s degrees in Library and Information Science as well as a Teacher’s Certificate, and a Ph.D. in Library and Information Science. He started his career as a Library Assistant and worked his way up to the Deputy Director of the Uganda National Library Service. After joining Makere University as a lecturer in 1986, he was eventually promoted to Professor in 2005. A 1992 Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Kigongo-Bukenya also served as the Secretary General and Chairman of the Uganda Library Association, the Representative for Uganda in the Commonwealth Library Association (COMLA), and CAF Commissioner for Football from 2003 through 2006. Dr. Kigongo-Bukenya is a member of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA), Uganda Library and Information Association, and the Information Science Foundation for East Africa (ISFEA).
