Background Check Policy and Procedures

One of the admission to teacher education requirements in the Dewar College of Education is completion of a criminal background check. This is a Georgia check designed for individuals who will be working with children. The purpose of this check is to provide candidates with information regarding any issues that may impact their ability to be certified at the completion of their program of study. At the time of application for student teaching, student teachers are asked to self-disclose any change in their criminal background history. If required by the school district where the student teacher is placed, student teachers must make themselves available for and pay any fee for any level of criminal background check required by the school system.
