VSU Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) -
Undergraduate Engagement in Discipline-Based Inquiry

What is the QEP? Quality Enhancement Plan, Undergraduate Engagement in Discipline-Based Inquiry -

Valdosta State University (VSU) is a community of scholars in a culture of excellence. The propagation of scholarship through teaching, research, and service is our reason for being. As such, VSU has identified Undergraduate Engagement in Discipline-Based Inquiry as its Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), a component of the university’s reaffirmation of accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

As an important part of our reaffirmation of accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), Valdosta State University developed a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), as described in Core Requirement 2.12:

The institution has developed an acceptable Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) that -

(1) includes a broad-based institutional process identifying key issues emerging from institutional assessment,
(2)

focuses on learning outcomes and/or the environment supporting student learning and accomplishing the mission of the institution,
(3)
demonstrates institutional capability for the initiation, implementation, and completion of the QEP,
(4)
includes broad-based involvement of institutional constituencies in the development and proposed implementation of the QEP, and
(5) identifies goals and a plan to assess their achievement. (Quality Enhancement Plan)

Did you know? The College of the Arts, Department of Art & Design has an accepted QEP Proposal -
Project 6: “Discovering Unrealized Generational Differences in Kitchen Design Preferences Between Next Generation Interior Designers and Current Resident-Users”
builds upon the studio experience of interior design students by teaching them to examine critically their own assumptions when designing. Research design of the project explores the differences between kitchen layouts in assisted living facility residences designed by interior design undergraduate students and the layouts designed by residents of the assisted living facilities. Submitted by Jessica Goldsmith, Assistant Professor of Art.

Welcome to the Valdosta State University - Department of Art & Design

The Department of Art & Design offers four comprehensive undergraduate degree programs and opportunities designed to prepare students for professional involvement in a 21st century environment. In addition to traditional studio programs the Department also offers instruction in Art Education, Interior Design, Art History, and electronic media, such as Animation, Graphic Design & Photography.

The BFA degrees with majors in art, interior design, and art education are professional degrees that prepare students for a variety of occupations or further educational experiences. The BA in art allows the flexibility of designing a comprehensive liberal arts curriculum that may lead to graduate school or develop into entrepreneurial careers in the visual arts.
