Program Goals

The Summer Study in Taiwan and Hong Kong is a 3-week academic program conducted in June. The program integrates classroom teaching with exciting field trips to criminal justice agencies and social services organizations in Taiwan and Hong Kong.   The main goal of this study is to enable students acquire a general grasp of the legal, social, and economic systems in a culturally diverse Asian society. The program intends to achieve the following outcomes where students are able to:

  • forge a comparative competence beneficial to their career developments and global perspectives
  • attain a greater understanding and appreciation of American society through comparative study of non-western systems
  • observe full details of a different culture through first-hand experience and exploration of organizational characteristics and administrations
  • advance intellectuality, independence, and responsibility in a foreign, challenging setting
