Valdosta State’s Criminal Justice Outreach Program is hosting the Critical Issues in Criminal Justice Seminar Series. At each seminar, you have the opportunity to earn CEU/POST credits. Additionally, those who attend all seminars and complete a separate assessment at an 85 percent success rate will receive a completion certificate.
The cost of the seminar is $300, which includes registration, CEU/POST credits, beverages, breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Onsite registration will be available for an additional fee of $50. Those who pre-register for the seminars will receive their CEU/POST credit certificates onsite. Certificates will be mailed to those who register onsite.
This series is sponsored by a Valdosta State University Project Innovate Grant, which was awarded to the Criminal Justice Program to improve the teaching, services, and support of its students, while also emphasizing outreach and agency recruitment.
In the fall of 2017, advanced certificates related to each of the seminar topics will be available. Upon completion of these advanced certificates, participants will become eligible to obtain a mastery certificate. Mastery certificate holders who have been admitted to VSU in either the Bachelor or Master of Science program are eligible to request three credit hours of prior learning credit. Once the request is approved and the associated tuition is paid, the credits will be posted to the student’s transcript. This opportunity will be available to seminar and non-seminar attendees.
October 28, 2016 - this seminar will explore the various treatment strategies available for use in correctional settings as well as practical methods for application.
Court Sentencing Decisions
December 2, 2016 - this seminar explore various aspects of court decision making with specific emphasis on sentencing and wrongful convictions.
February 3, 2017 - this seminar will explore key elements of forensic investigation, the current trends in forensic investigation, and possible future advances in forensic investigations.
Re-Entry: Adult & Juvenile
March 31, 2017 - this seminar will explore a variety of topics related to adult and juvenile reentry including the evaluation of reentry programs.
Technology in Policing
May 12, 2017 - this seminar will explore the use of technology in policing to improve execution of officer duties as well the enhancement of community relations.
June 30, 2017 - this seminar will explore diversion programs via specialty courts and restorative justice initiatives.
