Meet Colleen Kavanaugh
Colleen Kavanaugh arrived on campus as an athletic training major, but she quickly realized that she was not sure what she wanted to study. She found herself talking to a member of the financial aid team to figure out how she could drop her classes and move home.
Kavanaugh was encouraged to finish up her classes that semester and find a major that would be a better fit. Soon she scheduled an appointment with Career Services, where she learned of the Communications major. This is the major she wanted to pursue.
Now in her fourth year, Kavanaugh has fallen in love with VSU and considers it a home away from home. During her time here, she not only found the perfect major, but she also discovered that she had a passion for spreading school spirit and wanted to use the rest of her time on campus to share her love for the school with others.
To Kavanaugh, everyone seemed to have school spirit, but no one was interested in promoting it. So, in Fall of 2016 her and a friend launched The Fire Pit. This on-campus spirit organization utilizes different departments on campus to encourage students, staff, faculty, alumni, and members of the community to come together and support VSU through activities like attending events and wearing red.
Kavanaugh looks forward to enjoying her senior year and celebrating VSU with the people who share her same passion for the school.
