MINUTES OF THE MEETING COLLEGE OF EDUCATION EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
The College of Education Executive Committee met on Thursday, September 14, 2006, at 8:30 a.m. in the COE Conference Room (Room 235) in the Education Center with Dean Gunter presiding. Members present were: Drs. McGahee, Lee, Gerber, Bauer, Martinez, Griffin, Stanley, Hull, Leech, Galeano, and Mr. Pearce. Guests: Drs. Bass, Judd, Gladwin, L. Schmertzing, Dees, and Sanderson. Dr. Bass announced that the Department of Curriculum, Leadership, and Technology would sponsor a conference on college teaching to be held on the VSU campus on December 2, 2006, in the Bailey Science Center; Dr. Jay Rickman (History Department) will be the keynote speaker. VSU faculty and graduate students are invited to present proposals. Dean Gunter announced that MRR (major repair and renovation) funds had been approved to add floor-to-ceiling walls in the middle section of faculty offices on the first floor of the Education Center. Dean Gunter has met with the architect and VSU representatives about this project. In order for this project to be completed, faculty will need to be moved out of these offices by around the beginning of February or March. Faculty in these offices had agreed earlier to move if funding was approved for this project; however, Dean Gunter asked department heads to check again to ensure that they are still willing to be moved. Dean Gunter has met with Robert Tindall (Plant Operations) about the possibility of adding other COE projects to the MRR list; Mr. Tindall is quite willing to do this. Any faculty member who has a proposed project should let Dean Gunter know. Dean Gunter announced that the reception in honor of faculty who had been promoted and/or tenured would be held tomorrow (Friday) from 3:00-5:30 p.m. in the Bailey Science Center. Dr. Lee announced that she had received notification that the Library Media program had been approved by AASL (American Association of School Librarians). Dr. Gerber announced that "parents' weekend" would be held on September 23 at University Center. A table will be set up in the Rose Room for departments to display information about their programs; the focus of the weekend is on academic programs. Dean Gunter announced that Dr. Reffel had coordinated the Prentice-Hall book fair for the last several years and that she was willing to allow someone else to assume this role this year. Dean Gunter asked department heads to let him know if they had a faculty member who would be willing to undertake this responsibility. Dean Gunter announced that he would grill hamburgers and hot dogs tomorrow from 11:00-12:30 in front of the Education Center in celebration of the COE being "almost finished" with the NCATE/PSC evidence room. The remainder of the meeting time was devoted to assisting department heads and program coordinators in entering program account evidence into LiveText. Respectfully submitted,
Donnie J. McGahee |
