Dr. Jenkins is the Associate Dean of the Reich College of Education at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. The NCATE team will consist of five members, including

Dr. T. Reed distributed a handout on "Ethical Guidelines for NCATE-Affiliated Institutions."

Dr. Bauer moved approval of a prerequisite change for PSYC 3110 (Educational Psychology) and PSYC 3120 (Psychoeducational Aspects of Early Childhood); Dr. Ducharme seconded the motion. The new prerequisite for these two courses would be: PSYC 2500 or PSYC 2700 and acceptance to teacher education or approval of instructor. Reed asked that the prerequisite for these two courses be reviewed after a year.

Dr. T. Reed reminded department heads that PSYC 2700 (Human Growth and Development) cannot be counted in Area E after Summer Semester, 2001. Ms. Roberts announced that all education majors enrolled in PSYC 2700 for fall semester had been sent a letter from the dean's office informing them that if they had enrolled in PSYC 2700 planning to use it in Area E, they should drop it and enroll in PSYC 2500.

Dr. T. Reed announced that the Teacher Education Council (TEC) would meet today at 2:00 p.m. He distributed a proposal prepared by Dr. Dennis Marks and Dr. Adele Ducharme which outlines the composition of the TEC Discipline Committees, the composition of the Teacher Education Council itself, and a flow chart of the approval process for proposals relating to teacher education programs. Discussion was held about several aspects of the proposal. It was generally felt that there was no need for Discipline Committees for Adult and Career Education, Special Education and Communication Disorders, Kinesiology and Physical Education, and Psychology and Counseling. The proposal will be discussed at today's TEC meeting.

Ms. Roberts announced that a transfer orientation would be held tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. She also stated that the procedure for reporting the Praxis I scores had been changed; the scores will now be reported as one overall score rather than separate scores for reading, writing, and mathematics.

Dr. Gibbs reported that 21 students had been identified for the undergraduate Early Childhood program in Waycross.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:03 a.m.

Respectfully submitted,
