Dr. Krotseng will send out more information about the demonstration.

Dean Gunter announced that the BOR is developing a distance education initiative to look at delivery of initial teacher certification programs in an on-line format. The schools which will be a part of this initiative are North Georgia, Georgia State, and VSU.

A distance education symposium will be held on March 29-30. Several institutions will be involved. The symposium will be held in Atlanta. Each university may send up to five people.

Dr. Bauer announced that five of his faculty attended the training sessions for the new Area F courses held at Macon State. The Department of Psychology and Counseling will be responsible for teaching the EDUC 2130 course (Teaching and Learning). Dr. Bauer hopes to have the final course syllabus ready to share at the next Executive Committee meeting. EDUC 2130 will be offered Fall Semester, 2007.

Dr. Hull announced that the new SPEC 3000 course (to replace SPEC 2000) will be offered Fall Semester, 2007. Dr. Martin announced that the new EDUC 2110 (Critical Issues) course would be offered Fall Semester, 2007. This course will replace MSED 2000.

Discussion was held about the third new course, EDUC 2120 (Culture and Diversity). This course is not really assigned to any one department. For fall semester, the Departments of Early Childhood and Reading Education and Special Education and Communication Disorders agreed to each offer three sections of the course.

A great deal of discussion followed about issues emanating from these three new course, such as: since all three courses have field requirements, will criminal background checks be required, or will liability insurance be required; who will handle the placements in field experiences; what types of field experiences will be acceptable; how will field experiences be monitored, etc. Dean Gunter will refer this issue to the COE Field Experiences Committee and ask that it consider these issues and make a recommendation to the Executive Committee. The following people will meet with the Field Experiences Committee to provide input about these issues: a representative from Psychology and Counseling, a representative from Special Education and Communication Disorders, Dr. Reffel, Dr. Stanley, Dr. Sanderson, and Ms. Roberts. Dean Gunter will develop a list of advising issues relating to the three new courses to send out to COE faculty.

A general discussion followed about ways to advertise or market COE programs.
