The College of Education Executive Committee met on Thursday, December 8, 1994, at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Education Center with Dean Toth presiding. Present were: Drs. McGahee, Merriman, Ducharme, Uhlir, Gunter, Price, Wylie, Reed, Bauer, Swank, Ms. Roberts and Ms. Teel. Members absent: Dr. Hertzog. Dr. McGahee moved approval of the Graduate Admissions and Retention document written by the College of Education Graduate Admissions and Retention Committee; the motion was seconded by Dr. Wylie. Dr. McGahee briefly explained the document, noting that it had been discussed and voted upon in departmental meetings. He also indicated three minor revisions to the document which had been approved at the last meeting of the Graduate Admissions and Retention Committee. After short discussion, the motion was approved by a vote of 8-1, with one abstention. Dr. Bauer then withdrew the departmental graduate admissions criteria which had been submitted by the Department of Psychology, Counseling and Guidance. He felt that the criteria which had just been passed from the COE Graduate Admissions and Retention Committee superseded the proposal from his department. Dean Toth reported that concerns regarding the budget for part-time faculty for the Winter Quarter, 1995, were being resolved. He also stated that he had received a copy of the COE personnel budget, the first he has received since June, 1994. Dean Toth discussed the future of the Oasis Snack Bar in the Education Center. He is concerned that it will be closed when University Center opens; he plans to discuss this situation with Jim Black and Guenter Roesch. Ms. Roberts reported that, effective Winter Quarter, 1995, it is possible to place advising holds on the registrations of COE majors. In order to put a hold on a student's registration, she needs the student's name and Social Security number. Faculty will have to let her know when to remove holds. Dr. Bauer expressed concern about the need to have some type of recognition for part-time instructors and supervisors. Dr. Uhlir stated that it might be better to have something in conjunction with a regular COE faculty function, such as the Annual COE Tailgate party. More discussion on this issue will follow later. Dean Toth will try to arrange for a night to have the annual COE get-together for department heads. It will have to be on a weekday night; he will let department heads know later. Ms. Roberts announced that there will be an additional transfer advising session during Summer Quarter, 1995. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:10 a.m. Respectfully submitted, Donnie J. McGahee |
