The VSU ATEP program has a selective admissions process; meaning that after being admitted to VSU you must have attained 45 GPA hours, completed the Regents Exam satisfactorily, have an overall 2.75 grade point average, and have completed BIOL 2651 with a "C" or better; you may formally apply for admission to the ATEP. The ATEP admission process takes place ONLY in the fall semester and only for students who have met the aforementioned criteria. Once admitted to the VSU ATEP, students will begin taking courses in the major during the spring semester following admission. There will be room in the schedule each semester for the student to complete their remaining CORE classes. Students will matriculate through the curriculum in a co-hort. In order to complete the degree students will take 5 semesters worth of coursework following admission. Transfer students must meet the same program admissions criteria, and are encouraged to apply to the ATEP. However, depending on the number of credit hours that are transferred to VSU a transfer student may not complete the degree in four years.
Once admitted to the program the student will be assigned to a clinical supervisor and clinical site, and the student will be required to report to their clinical rotation daily during the semester. These clinical rotations are a program requirement which will typically require your time some evenings, weekends, and school breaks. Outside jobs, second majors or minors, coursework, etc that conflict with your clinical rotation will require approval from the program director and your clinical supervisor and may not be allowed in some circumstances.
If you are planning to or would like to visit the campus and meet with the program director (which we highly recommend), please communicate with him in advance of your arrival so that he can schedule a time to meet that works with his class schedule, office hours, etc. Unfortunately, on unannounced visits, the faculty may not be able to meet with you. The Admissions Office can also assist in arranging a meeting.
