DR. LYNN ADAMS JOINS THE CSD DEPARTMENT

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is pleased to announce the arrival of Dr. Lynn Adams in Fall 2011. Dr. Adams' areas of expertise include autism spectrum disorders and language development/disorders from birth through adolescence. She taught at the university level for 15 years in Missouri and Virginia before moving to Savannah, GA to serve as the autism specialist for the school system. Dr. Adams received her Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee, and her M.S. and B.S. from Florida State University.

VSU SHINES AT GSHA 2010

Valdosta State University received several awards at this year's Georgia Speech-Language-Hearing Association, which was held March 19-21 in Atlanta. Dr. Ruth Stonestreet received Honors of the Association and the Past President Award. She is pictured below with Vince Clark, a VSU alum, who received the Clinician of the Year Award. Karena Hall, a graduate student, was the recipient of the Jack Bess Scholarship. VSU also received the Student Participation Award and the Student Membership Award. Congratulations to everyone!

DR. JADE COSTON TO JOIN VSU

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is pleased to welcome Dr. Jade Coston as our newest faculty member beginning Fall 2009. Dr. Coston has than 12 years of professional experience serving children and families in early intervention. Her research and teaching interests include language and emergent literacy development; participation based models of early intervention; services in natural environments; and evidence-based practices for serving special populations of children and their families, such as children adopted internationally and children with autism. Dr. Coston received her doctoral degree in Communication Disorders at Florida State University in 2008.

DR. ALEJANDRO BRICE

Dr. Alejandro Brice has accepted a position at the University of South Florida. He will be missed by everyone at VSU. We wish him well in his new position.

GOVERNOR SIGNS BETTER HEARING AND SPEECH MONTH PROCLAMATION

On February 24, Gov. Sonny Perdue signed a proclamation declaring May Better Hearing and Speech Month.  Members of GSHA attended the signing at the state capitol.
