The Performance-Based Certification Non-Degree Program offers candidates the opportunity to become certified in performance-based leadership at the building or system level. The candidate must hold a specialists degree or higher from an accredited or PSC approved college or university and be certified in educational leadership (NL 6, NL 7). NL certification can be obtained by posting a passing score on the GACE Leadership exam. The candidate must also submit an assurance form from a local school system identifying the candidate as serving in a leadership role as defined by their local system and supporting the performance based residency requirements. Examples include, but are not limited to; team leader, grade chair, department chair, SACS team chair, academic coach, school improvement team leader, athletic director, assistant principal, principal, curriculum coordinator, or special education director.
The program requirements include 6 hours of specialist/doctoral level leadership coursework (previous graduate courses will be considered for transfer) and 18 hours of advanced performance-based work in real settings as outlined in the PSC Residency Guidelines and the Inventory of Leadership Experiences. The ILE provides for both building and system leadership personnel to participate in leadership activities appropriate for their roles. Therefore, the two tracks are differentiated by the performance component—the level at which the residency is completed.
