Curriculum and Instruction

Program Description

The Curriculum and Instruction major is designed for experienced practitioners in a variety of instructional fields. The program provides opportunities for students to relate theoretical foundations to curricular and instructional issues facing schools, school systems, higher education, and other educational agencies.

Selected Educational Outcomes

  1. Students will initiate, manage, and evaluate the change process.
  2. Students will establish an interdisciplinary, research-based approach to theinvestigation and solution of educational problems.
  3. Students will demonstrate willingness to accept and act on cognitive and af-fective feedback for continuous improvement.

Examples of Outcome Assessments

  1. Students will demonstrate skills in initiating, managing, and evaluating thechange process through documentation of various components of their cur-riculum innovation projects. Skills are assessed through project documentationand observation by a faculty team.
  2. Students’ research skills will be assessed through the comprehensive examand the dissertation which are both evaluated by a faculty committee.
  3. Students will be assessed on their willingness to accept and act on cognitiveand affective feedback from faculty and peers through observation and docu-mentation of appropriate, timely, and thorough responses to feedback.
