Who is my advisor?
Your advisor will be assigned after you have attended an orientation session. An email will be sent to your VSU email account with the name and location of your advisor. The name of your advisor will also be posted on Banner Web. Go to the Registration link on the VSU homepage. Log in, and click on the link Student and Financial Aid. Click on Student Records and then Student Information and the name of your advisor will be listed there.
Do I need to be advised every semester?
Yes. VSU has a mandatory advising system. Your academic advisor must make you eligible to use the registration system. Advisors want you to make an appointment with them to discuss your academic life at VSU.
How do I contact my advisor?
All advising center advisors will post sign up sheets on his/her door right before registration opens up. You can also contact them by email, phone, or in his/her office.
When should I go see my advisor?
Fall Registration - March, July
Spring Registration - October
Summer Registration - March
Can I change advisors?
Yes. Come to the Advising Center in room 2036 in the Dewar College of Education and speak with a staff member.
If I want to change my major, how can I find out what courses will transfer to the new program of study?
Go to Registration(Banner) on the home page and login. Click on the link Student and Financial Aid, then click on the link Student Records. Look for the link DegreeWorks. Select the what-if link on the left and select the major. Please keep in mind that this is a tool to help you, not a guarantee that courses will transfer this way.
How do I change my major?
If you are a college of education major and you have not been admitted to teacher education or accepted to your program, come to the advising center in room 2036 in the Dewar College of Education.
If you are not a college of education major, get a signed major change form and advising folder from your department and bring to the advising center in room 2036 in the Dewar College of Education.
How do I apply to the College of Education?
There is no application to complete. After completing 30 hours of credit, you must take the appropriate '2999' class for your major. After a satifactory grade is obtained in this class, you will be admitted to the College of Education.
If you are a transfer student, you wil take the appropriate '2999' class your first semester at VSU. You must have met all other admission criteria to register for professional courses.
When will I get admitted if I am in the appropriate 2999 course?
You can get admitted at mid-term or at the end of the semester if you meet requirements.
Who decides if I meet 2999 requirements?

When do I register for the '2999' course and how often do I take it?
You should register for the appropriate '2999' course after competing 30 and every semester after that until satusfactory completion.
How will I get information from the College of Education?
Your email account is automatically subscribed to the COESTU list serve if you are an education major. College of Education information will be sent to your email account through this list serve. For example: classes opening, deadlines to meet, and other important information.
Does the College of Education have an appeal process?
Yes. If there is something that you need to appeal, you should come to room 2036 in the Dewar College of Education and pick up an appeal form. The committee meets once a month. You can also access the information on the web by clicking here.
Do students work in the Advising Center?
Yes. We hire a graduate assistant and Peer advisors to work with new and transfer students.
How do I know what courses transfer to VSU?
The Admissions Office will complete a transfer credit summary that will show how the courses transfer into VSU. An advisor will then show you how they fit in our programs of study.

What do I need to know about mid-term?
Midterm grades will be submitted for all 1000- and 2000-level courses. Grades are available on Banner Web. How do you get to the Banner Web? The VSU Banner Website is located on the VSU homepage www.valdosta.edu (Click on Registration). Students in academic difficulty should contact their instructor and their advisor for guidance and options. Courses dropped by mid-term will not count in your grade point average.

Why do I have a Regents' hold on my record?
A “hold” is being placed on the record of all students with over 60 hours who have not met or not in the process of meeting Regents’ Exam requirements. This hold means that these students will not be able to preregister for the next semester classes until the day when freshmen are allowed to register.
