Admission Criteria for Teacher Preparation Programs

Have a major leading to teacher certification.

Have earned at least 30 semester hours.

Have achieved at least a overall 2.50 for all majors (except Communication Disorders which is 3.0 GPA and Art Education is 2.75 GPA).

Have met University System Regents' requirement ("D" or better in ENGL 1102).

Have passed GACE Basic Skills Assessment or exempted with scores of SAT-1000 (Verbal and Math), ACT-43 (English and Math), CLAST(minimum scores of Essay-6, English Language-295, Reading-295, and Mathematics-295), GRE before August 1, 2011- 1030 (Verbal and Quantitative) and GRE on or after August 1, 2011 - 297 (Verbal and Quanititative)

Successful completion of appropriate "2999" course.

Undergo a criminal background check at your local police or sheriff's department processed under Purpose Code W. Present a current copy (no older than a year) of the results to the Advising Center in room 2036 in the Dewar College of Education.

Have professional liability insurance. Insurance can be purchased in the Advising Center in room 2036 in the Dewar College of Education or online. SPAGE and GAE are acceptable.
Admission Criteria for Non-Teacher Preparation Programs
Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology Degree Admission Requirements
Students are admitted into the BSEP Degree program following:

Completion of Areas A-F of the Core curriculum.

Successful completion of the Regents’ Testing Program.

A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.50.
-
A minimum of "C" in all prerequisite courses within the BSEP program.
- "Admission to the Major" form signed by the BSEP program coordinator.
Retention Requirements
The student's grade point average in all Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology coursework at the 3000- and 4000- level must be at least 2.5 in order for the student to be allowed to enroll in either KSPE 4510 or KSPE 4550.
Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Major in Psychology
Bachelor of Science Degree with a Major in Psychology
These programs introduce students to the liberal arts and to psychology as a scientific discipline, with content and methods able to improve the human condition. To be admitted to the Psychology program you must have completed 30 hours of coursework in the core and earned at least an overall GPA of 2.0. You must also earn a "C" or better (> 2.0 GPA) in each and every required psychology course. Each program in this department has numerous desired outcomes.
Bachelor of Science with a Major in Athletic Training Admission and Selection of Students
Students may declare the Sports Medicine/Athletic Training major as enrolling freshmen and then formally apply to the program during the fall semester of their sophomore year. Admission to the program is limited by the number of available clinical positions. Applicants will be accepted each year according to the criteria listed below. - Overall grade point average
- A student must have a 2.75 overall grade point average (includes transferred coursework) at the time of enrolling in KSPE 2050 Introduction to Sports Medicine/Athletic Training.
- Course work
- Forty-five semester hours completed.
- KSPE 2050 Introduction to Athletic Training, KSPE 2151 Advanced First Aid/CPR, BIOL 2651 Anatomy and Physiology with grades of C or better.
- Regents’ Examination passed.
- Directed Observation
- 50 hours Directed Observation
- Clinical skills proficiency
- Demonstration of punctuality, professionalism, and responsibility
- Successful Interview
- Favorable Recommendations – three from non-familial sources
- Completed Application form
- Technical Standards

VSU ATHLETIC TRAINING RETENTION REQUIREMENTS
Students must have:
- maintained an overall minimum GPA of 2.75. Students whose overall GPA falls below 2.75 will be placed on probation for one semester.
- obtained student liability insurance. (MUST occur before beginning clinical rotations)
- obtained the Hepatitis B Vaccine inoculation or signed waiver.
- completed a pre-participation physical.
- attended OSHA training and abided by all OSHA regulations.
- been able to meet the published technical standards of the program.
Students will be dismissed for any of the following reasons:
- Overall GPA falling below 2.75 and inability to achieve this requirement after one semester of probation.
- Unsatisfactory clinical evaluation.
- Unsatisfactory year-end evaluation.
- Any incident as described in the Policy and Procedure Manual regarding automatice dismissal
