Mission

Marcella Prater and Vesta Whisler were appointed as co-directors of the VSU-CEE effective Fall Semester, 2007, and they have adopted the following existing mission statement:

To assist in preparing the students in the forty-one county VSU region for their economic roles as workers, consumers, and citizens through assistance to the teachers in the public and independent schools of the region and through direct outreach programs.

A guiding philosophy of the VSU Center is to establish alliances and partnerships with the corporate community, the public service community, the university, and school districts in support of K-12 economic education. This philosophy is reflected in the delivery of programs that rely heavily on collaboration between the above-mentioned communities and the VSU Center. The Center's mission and philosophy is achieved through the attainment of the following goals:

  1. The delivery of Economic Education materials to regional teachers through Center-sponsored workshops.
  2. The improvement of regional teachers' economic content preparation through Center-sponsored graduate courses, designed specifically for classroom teachers.
  3. The building of strategic alliances with the regional business community through active community involvement and participation in Center-sponsored activities.
  4. The building of community-based alliances through active involvement in regional initiatives for the enhancement of education.
  5. The continuous improvement of Center activities through participation in N.C.E.E. and G.C.E.E. training sessions.
  6. The enhancement of Center activities through partnerships developed within the Valdosta State University community.
  7. The improvement of the economic education experiences of regional students through the active involvement of the Center in community outreach programs.
