DANCE PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES

AT VSU

VSU REPERTORY DANCERS ANNUAL CONCERT

The Valdosta Repertory Dancers is a performing ensemble that was founded by Eric Brandt Nielsen in 1986. The ensemble has over 150 dances in the repertoire, which have been recorded on video tape for restaging purposes. Each year the VSU faculty creates new dances for the dance ensemble as well as restaging works from the repertoire.

VSU ANNUAL MUSICAL THEATRE PRODUCTION

Each year the theatre and dance programs join forces with the music department to produce an annual musical. Many of the musicals are wonderful outlets for dancers who have ballet, jazz, tap, social, folk and partnering skills. This is one of seven productions produced on the theatre season.

AMERICAN COLLEGE DANCE FESTIVAL

For the past six years, Associate Professor Catherine Schaeffer, has provided students with performance, choreographic and master class opportunities at the annual American College Dance Festival. Students have an opportunity to perform in an adjudicated work by the faculty member as well as apply for the student choreography showing. The festival is an incredible outlet for students to take master classes from other artists in a variety of genres, view choreography that has been created at other universities, and meet other college students who share a common interest in dance.

KALEIDSOSCOPE DANCE CONCERT/GEORGIA ASSOCIATION FOR HEALTH, PHYSICAL EDUCATION, RECREATION AND DANCE

VSU dance program actively supports GAHPERD and participates in their annual conferences. Kaleidoscope, is a dance concert of adjudicated choreography performed at the annual conference. It represent the creative talents of educators and students within the Georgia system. The conference also offers master classes taught by guest artists and state educators.

Each year, the choreography class provides an informal showing of choreographic works created in the choreography class.

PEACH STATE SUMMER THEATRE

Peach State Summer Theatre is the offical musical theatre of the state of Georgia. It is a professional theatre that hires both Equity and Non-Equity actors through selected auditions state and nationwide. Students have an opportunity to audition and be hired for this summer company that performs three shows in rep. All performances are performed in Sawyer Theatre which is housed on the VSU campus.

SCHOLARSHIP FUND RAISING PERFORMANCES

Each year we have been joing forces with the Valdosta Ballet School to produce a classical ballet. Performers include guest artists and students from both the ballet school and our own program. All box office receipts go to our scholarship fund.
