Syktyvkar State University (SSU) enjoys friendly and constructive relations with the National Library of the Komi Republic, the Komi Branch of the Russian Academy of Science, Komi State Pedagogical Institute, Syktyvkar Forest Institute, the Komi National Opera, the Finno-Ugric Center, and other organizations.There are over 1,500 possible degree combinations on offer at the undergraduate level.

Profile

Founded in 1972, Syktyvkar State University (SSU) is an important educational, scientific, and cultural center of the European north of Russia. With over 3500 full-time students and 250 faculty members, SSU is undergoing rapid expansion. The university offers a variety of graduate and undergraduate programs.

Location

SSU is located in Syktyvkar, the capital of the Komi Republic in northwestern Russia, approximately 1000 kilometers northeast of Moscow. The Komi Republic is the size of France and has a population of about one million. Syktyvkar, with a population of over 250,000, is the administrative, educational, cultural, and industrial center of the Republic. It has its own ballet, theater, opera and symphony. The Komi Archives, with complete records of the prison camps, executions, and political monitoring in Komi, provide a rich resource for research.

Divisions

Russian Language Courses are mostly provided. The University comprises eleven faculties: Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology, Finance and Economics, Management; History, Law, Philology, Finno-Ugric Studies, Physical Training, Psychology and Social Work, Art, and the Center for Studies of Humanities. English language courses are not available in most divisions.

Room and Board

Accommodation can be arranged in the university dormitory, in apartment, or with a host family. Syktyvkar State University usually takes care of the accommodation of the exchange students. The total monthly living expenses of a single student average around 200-250 US dollars.
