Cultural Studies in Japan

Spend three weeks in the most mysterious country in Asia. Visit Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, and Hiroshima, site where the first atomic bomb was dropped. Experience Japan, eat Japanese food, and learn about Japanese Culture. Courses offered for 2012 are Japanese culture and Japanese Spiritual Traditions, with a focus on Buddhism and Shinto.

Duration / Location: approximately three weeks from approximately June 12 to July 3. Program fee includes airfare, breakfast on class days, stay in youth hostels (private room in Tokyo), and an excursion to Kyoto & Hiroshima. Program fee does not include other meals, spending money, and VSU tuition.

Otemon Gakuin University

Located just minutes from Osaka and Kyoto, students study at Otemon Gakuin University . Students can take intensive Japanese language classes and Japanese culture classes.

VSU Exchange Program: Kansai Gadai University, Japan

Kansai Gaidai

Located in the cultural heart of Japan, Kansai Gaidai provides an excellent starting point from which to begin your exploration of a land that, by anyone's standards, is truly fascinating. All classes are conducted in English.

VSU Exchange Program: Oberlin University, Japan

Tokyo Intersection

Located on the outskirts of Tokyo. Students may participate in Reconnaissance Japan for either a single semester or an academic year. The program offers Japanese language skills and training courses from the introductory to advanced levels. A wide variety of culture and civilization courses on Japan taught in English are also offered each semester.

Cost: VSU tuition and fees. Pay room and meal costs at Oberlin. Additional costs, airfare, ground transportation, and spending money. (Only available to VSU students)

VSU Exchange Program: Tama University, Japan

Meiji

Located just outside of Machida, only 30 minutes from Tokyo. Students may take courses in English in the School of Global studies. Courses offered in English include Global Business, Hospitality Management, and International Management.

Cost: VSU tuition and fees. Pay room and meal costs in Tama. Additional costs: airfare, ground transportation, and spending money. (Only available to VSU students)
