Program Location
A beautiful and ancient city on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, Seville has a tropical climate and a rich cultural life. When you visit this city, you are in the very heart of Andalusian culture, the center of bullfighting and Flamenco music. Seville is the political, cultural, and intellectual capital of Andalucia, one of Spain's most populous regions. The Seville Cathedral is the third largest church in the Christian world. Seville is home to a "Plaza de Toros" and to the "Casa Lonja," which contains the Archives of the Indies - a valuable source of information on the Spanish colonization of America.
Seville boasts of a dramatic and colorful past. The "Alcazar" and "La Giralda," together with numerous other examples, are structures which symbolize Seville's past as a center of Islamic, Jewish, and Christian learning and culture. With its palm shaded avenues, numerous parks, gardens, and plazas, Seville is truly one of Spain's -- and the world's -- loveliest cities .

Program Description
Each student will be assigned to a family in Seville, one of the most beautiful and visited cities in the world. The Center administers a placement test to assign students to an appropriate level class. The classes are very small (an average of nine students) and taught by members of the Center staff, all of whom have reputations as excellent teachers. Classes meet for three hours daily, Monday through Friday, for three weeks. Many afternoons or evenings offer cultural activities such as tertulias, movies, theatre, musical or dance performances, a bullfight, or a cruise on the river Guadalquivir. One weekend day trip includes a visit to Roman and Moorish Cordoba; another combines a trip to sites frequented by Christopher Columbus, with time at the beach for you. Our group will visit the international city of Tangiers, Morocco, North Africa. We will also meet for outings in Seville.
