For the following programs, you can enroll and receive credit at Valdosta State University. Past and Present Environments of the Bahamas

Study archeology, ecology and environmental science using the unique history and environments of San Salvador Island. The coral reefs, caves and mangrove swamps provide a unique backdrop for understanding the mechanics of ecosystems and how human impact since Columbus has altered these fragile environments. San Salvador was where Columbus first landed in 1492. Four credits in Environmental Science or Tropical Ecology or three credits in Anthropology or Interdisciplinary Studies. Duration / Location: Approximately ten days / San Salvador Island, Bahamas.

ChinaStudy Program

An unforgettably rewarding experience living and studying at Yangzhou University with weekend excursions to Beijing, Nanjing, Huangshan National Park, Suzhou, Hangzhou and Shanghai. Learn to cook Chinese food, practice Tai Qi, and bargain in the markets. Earn nine semester credits in Chinese at advanced, intermediate or beginning levels. NO PREVIOUS STUDY OF CHINESE REQUIRED. Program includes a weekend homestay. Price includes roundtrip airfare, lodging and most meals, class excursions, and some ground transportation. Duration / Location: Six Weeks / Yangzhou, China.

Ghana Literacy and Culture

Visit a rainforest, Cape Coast and Elmina Castles, Accra (national capital), Kumasi (center of the Asante Kingdom), Bonwire (Kente cloth weaving village), fishing and cocoa villages. Choice of a variety of courses, including Social Change in West Africa, Literacy Learning in Ghanaian Schools, the African novel, music, traditional religion, Fante, West African political economy and tropical marine biology. Up to six credits. Live with host families. Duration / Location: Five weeks / Cape Coast, Ghana.

Study Indian history and culture in cosmopolitan Mumbai (Bombay). Visit historic New Delhi; explore the haunting Mughal imperial city Fatepur Sikri; experience the cave temples of Ajanta and Ellora; see the world’s most beautiful building, the Taj Mahal. Three credits. Hotels and hostels. Duration / Location: Three weeks / Mumbai, India. Tropical Ecology, Belize

Venture into the tropical rainforests of Belize to discover the principles of environmental science and ecology. Witness the remains of ancient Mayan civilizations and explore both ancient and contemporary cultures. Snorkel in the clear blue waters near coastal island shores to explore sea grass beds and coral reefs. Learn more about Belize’s unique ecosystems and the impacts of past and present populations on their ecological functions while experiencing both tropical and island life. Interact with and learn about local students who will be taking the class along with you. Cottages, dormitories, and camping. 8 credits. Classes team-taught with faculty from Sacred Heart Junior College (San Ignacio, Belize) at sites throughout Belize. June 1 – 29. Cost: $2,400 plus tuition. Culture and Magic of Peru

Explore the magnificent colonial city of Huamanga (Ayacucho) in the Peruvian Andes and discover Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire. Two weeks in Huamanga and two weeks in Cusco will focus on Spanish language, Andean history, society and traditional arts, and offer time to explore the Incas’ lost city of Machu Picchu and to attend performances of traditional folk music and dance. China Summer Study Program
Study political science or criminal justice in China. Class projects, field trips, weekend excursions, and other activities are organized to help students acquire an exciting, unforgettable experience in dynamic China. Duration / Location: 4 weeks/Zhengzhou, China. The host institution is Zhengzhou University which has a student population of 35,000. The city is close to many historical and cultural sites including the famous Shaolin Monastery where martial arts traditions were established. The program fee includes round-trip airfare, lodging and most meals, field trips and excursions, most ground transportation, and visa application.

Study Abroad Chile
Discover Latin America while studying anthropology, geography, political science, Spanish language and culture, or other courses available on the campus of the University of La Serena. The City of La Serena, with its colonial architecture is located on the Pacific Ocean just minutes away from beautiful, lush valleys, the Andes Mountains, and world famous observatories. Students will be housed in beach-style apartments close to beautiful La Serena and Colquimbo beaches. The cost includes a weekend trip to a small village located in the Andes Mountains, and other excurstions. Optional ski trips are also available. The final 3 days of the program will be in the capital city of Santiago that is surrounded by snow-covered Andes Mountains. Duration / Location: Four Weeks/La Serena and Santiago, Chile.
